Andy’s first rubber win over Dmitry Tursunov in the Davis Cup final against Russia set the USA up with a great opportunity to bring the trophy home – and it was a chance that they did not pass up.
Andy got Team USA off to a great start in the Davis Cup final at the beginning of December in Portland, Oregon with a 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 victory over Russia’s Dmitry Tursunov.
In July, Andy attended the 15th Annual ESPY Awards in Hollywood. He and Davis Cup teammate James Blake arrived in style for the red carpet awards ceremony – on the US Open Series Tour Bus!
Just before Wimbledon, on 18th June, Andy made the trip to Germany to take part in SAP’s A Day in the Metropolregion Rhein-Neckar at the Racquet Centre in Nussloch.
Did you know that in preparation for his ‘match’ against Andy, Todd Gallagher, author of ‘Andy Roddick Beat me with a frying pan’, was so intent on making it a fair battle that he picked out 5 frying pans in advance?
At the Third Annual ARF Charity Gala in Austin, Texas in October, over $1.3m was raised for the Andy Roddick Foundation through a live auction and the help of Sir Elton John, who performed at the event.
Watching Andy’s second match at Tennis Masters Cup Shanghai against Fernando Gonzalez, you wouldn’t have known that he had only played two tournament matches since the US Open, one of those being his opening victory against Nikolay Davydenko.
