Nikolay Davydenko has carved his way most impressively through the draw as he has posted his best results to date at the Australian Open. Thus far, the young Russian has not dropped a set as he has taken out players such as Tim Henman, Guillermo Cañas and Christopher Rochus. His compatriot, Marat Safin, said, “He’s doing well. He’s working hard. He deserves to be here. He’s a hard worker, so good luck. He has a tough match and I think he can give a surprise.”
Coming up against number two seed Andy Roddick will certainly be Davydenko’s toughest test yet. The pair has met three times without Andy losing a set, so confidence should not be an issue. In his bid to reach his second semifinal in Melbourne, Andy is definitely ready for the test. Speaking before he knew if he was playing Davydenko or Cañas, he said, “I think Davydenko goes for his shots a little bit more. But they’re both going to make me work very hard. I’ll get looks at their service games. They’re not going to serve me off the court. But that being said, they’re both really good returners so it will be a little bit of a different match than what I’ve played so far.”
Playing the day session tomorrow, the temperatures will certainly be heating up on Rod Laver Arena. Andy will be heating up his serve and and playing efficient points to conserve his energy as either Lleyton Hewitt or David Nalbandian will be waiting in the next round.
Good Luck Andy!
