Roddick V Melzer Preview

After coming through his four set encounter against Greg Rusedski, Andy will now play, yes, you guessed it, another lefty in the third round.

Jurgen Melzer, the 23 year old, number 32 seed from Austria, has had a pretty easy passage through to round three. In round one, his opponent retired after only six games, and he had a straight sets victory over Nathan Healey in round two. However, he is sure to face much sterner opposition in facing America’s number two seed.

Melzer will be a tricky opponent for Andy, but by now Andy should have it down to a ‘T’ for playing left handers. Melzer has had a good start to this year reaching the quarter finals in the warm up tournament in Adelaide. Andy and Melzer met twice last year with Andy winning both encounters, one in the Davis Cup first round, and one in Houston on clay.

Andy produced some of his best tennis in defeating Rusedski in the second round, but is keeping his feet firmly on the ground ahead of his match up with Melzer. “He is a tough left-hander,” said the Andy, “He is a shot-maker, so it is not going to be easy.”

Go Andy!
