The Spanish Team caused a stir among the gallery of press as Captain Jordi Arrese selected Rafael Nadal to play No. 2 singles ahead of Juan Carlos Ferrero. Nadal, at 18, is the second youngest player to play a singles rubber in a Davis Cup Final. The youngest was Boris Becker who was just over 5 months younger when he played for Germany in 1985.
Ferrero, who has been recovering from an injury could then be fresh and available in the later rounds. As with any strategy, it all depends on the results of the early rounds.
Nadal said he is ready to handle the pressure and Andy said he is ready for a lefty.
In the final analysis, all the strategy and predictions do not mean anything. Once two players take the court, it is the battle of the moment and as history has proven time and again, anything can happen.
