Andy Roddick has been on a whirlwind tour since winning the U.S. Open in September, but this weekend, Roddick came back to South Florida in the name of charity.
Roddick, a Boca Raton resident who recently bought a house in Austin, held a number of events in Boca Raton this weekend, raising more than $350,000 for his charitable foundation.
Saturday night, Roddick raised more than $275,000 at a dinner at a country club in Boca Raton. Sunday afternoon, he played host to a tennis event at the Florida Atlantic University gymnasium. The event also featured Chris Evert, Patrick McEnroe and Aaron Krickstein.
Sunday’s event featured Roddick winning singles, doubles and mixed-doubled events on a makeshift court on FAU’s wood floor.
After Roddick won his singles match, Reebok presented him with a check for $50,000 for his foundation.
“One of the great things about winning tennis matches is it presents a unique opportunity to raise money for charity,” said Roddick, who ended the season ranked No. 1 in the world. “That’s pretty cool. Any time I can give back to kids who might be less fortunate is pretty much a no-brainer.”
