Andy Joins Wtt For Charity In Sunny California

Andy’s idea of taking some time off from competition has nothing to do with rest, but everything to do with charity. After stops in Los Angeles and Boca Raton for personal reasons, Andy will travel back to California for the first of two charity appearances for the week before returning to action on October 18 for the Tennis Masters Madrid, the prestigious prelude to the European indoor season.

The 12th Annual World Team Tennis All-Star Smash Hits will be held at the Bren Center at the University of California, Irvine campus. Presented by ADT Security Services, the event, which benefits the Elton John AIDS Foundation and the National AIDS Fund, is slated to take place at 7 PM on Monday, October 11, 2004. Andy will play Andre Agassi in the evening’s featured match.

This year, the All-Star Smash Hits event will be co-hosted by Billie Jean King and music legend Elton John, featuring Andy, Andre Agassi, Anna Kournikova, and Tracy Austin. Past participants have included Pete Sampras, John McEnroe, the Jensen brothers, Monica Seles, Lindsay Davenport, Mary Pierce, Martina Navratilova, Venus Williams and Serena Williams.

The event, will follow the WTT format featuring men’s and women’s singles, doubles, and mixed doubles featuring the professional tour players and their hosts.

Ilana Koss, CEO and Commissioner of WTT, said, “One of the primary objectives of World Team Tennis is to provide more opportunities to showcase the WTT product in each of our core markets,” adding, “We are quickly developing a strong following for the Newport Beach Breakers in southern California and bringing Smash Hits to Orange County gives us another chance to expose more people to our special brand of tennis.”

Tickets for the 12th annual WTT All-Star Smash Hits may be purchased at all Ticketmaster centers and the Bren Center box office at (714) 740-2000 or (949) 824-5000, respectively.
