Through To The Semi-finals!

Andy has progressed to the semifinals with his 6-3, 6-4 win over Sweden’s Thomas Johansson.

After the match, Andy commented: “I was serving pretty well, which was the key. I was lucky to break him when I had the chance. Reaching the semifinal was better than I expected, because I just got here a few days ago.” This quote is a common understatement by Andy who served 21 aces with 7 on his second serve. Look out if he ever says that he served great.

In the semi finals, Andy will face Marat Safin of Russia. The two have played twice before, with Safin leading the encounters. The two matches they”ve played this year have been split.

Safin, who is fighting for a place in the last eight at the Masters Cup, has just won the title in China recently and helped confirm his country’s place in the elite Davis Cup world group last weekend. This fiery Russian would beat anyone on his day, but so often it just isn’t so. After reaching the final of the Australian Open earlier this year, things just haven’t gone Marat’s way, and it’s only now that he’s starting to find a bit of form. If Safin plays well, as he has been doing recently, then Andy will have his work cut out for him, but he isn’t ranked number two in the world for no reason.

The other semi-final will be between Federer and Srichaphan. That match will be played at 2.30pm (local time), followed by Roddick-Safin.
