Top seed Roger Federer has advanced into second round of his debut at theThailand Open, winning in straight, but tight, sets, 6-4, 7-6 over Frenchman Nicolas Thomann.
Federer was one of the first players to arrive in Bangkok to begin preperations for the event. Other plays, including Roddick, Safin, and Srichaphan were delayed in arriving given their Davis Cup committments.
Defending Champion Taylor Dent also advanced today, defeating countryman Justin Gimblestob 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Federer and Dent join Thomas Johansson, who won his opening match yesterday, in the second round.
