Team Usa Update

9/24/04…Andy is up first in today’s matches vs. Vladimir Voltchkov at 1:30 PM EST on ESPN!!

On Wednesday, Team USA continued their preparation for this weekend’s Semifinal round tie against Belarus. Andy and Mardy played a practice set, and as usual with these close friends, the loser had to face some consequences. The typical reward for the winner and punishment for the loser is in the form of a game called “Butts up.” The winner gets a pre-determined amount of serves to nail the loser in the butt. The loser, or in this case, losers (As a sign of good faith Mardy’s coach, Kelly Jones stepped up too), have to turn around and stick out their rear ends. The one catch for the server is that the ball must bounce before reaching the target/victim. While this significantly reduces the velocity, I have a feeling it’s still not fun to receive one of Andy’s rockets in the rear.

After practice, Andy stuck to his daily routine, and ventured to Starbucks for some coffee. As you know, Andy is a big sports fan, and loves to read through several sports sections every day to keep up with the top stories. This is a great way for him to get away from the tennis world for a little while.

After a casual team dinner, and a friendly game of Poker with the guys, it was off to bed.

Go Andy! Go Team USA!

Please continue to check back to ar.com for updates on the activities of Andy, and the rest of the Davis Cup Team!”
