Cruising Along To Round 2 With The Ar.com Crew

Andy is through to the round of sixteen and will face Tommy Robredo next as he continues his march towards the defense of his US Open title. He is in good form and looking stronger than ever, continuing to pound his opposition into submission with his big serve and hard hitting style.

On Friday, Andy thoroughly dominated the young Rafael Nadal and won in quite easy fashion. The crowd, which had anticipated a much better showdown only got a glimpse of the future Nadal holds, but were treated to a very promising present in Roddick. Andy won the match in 97 minutes. He was down a break in the 3rd set but came back to tie and then win the set breaking Nadal twice. His highest serve was clocked at 152 mph.

On Sunday, Andy faced Guillermo Canas of Argentina but had no problems whatsoever. He finished the match in 97 minutes never losing serve and never giving his opponent a glimmer of hope. Canas played a good match but Andy proved to be a bit too much for him to handle. Andy’s forehand looked particularly strong as he pounded 28 winners. He won 84% of his first serve points continuing the trend of being the player winning the most points on his serve on the tour. His highest serve was clocked at 146 mph prompting the CBS interviewer to tease Andy for slacking off.

Tonight Andy faces Tommy Robredo of Spain. They have played six times before with Andy winning each time without dropping a set. Andy should get through, but if the big tournaments have taught us anything, it’s never to be overconfident. Andy matches up will with his opponent and holds a clear edge, especially due to his powerful game. If Andy gets through, he could potentially meet Joachim Johansson in the quarterfinals. Johansson is an upcoming player known for his big serve and forehand.

Our vacations are over and school and work await us but there’s still tennis to be played at Flushing Meadows, so stay tuned!
