Andy got down to business on the courts in New York today with a strong practice session starting at 2:30 in the afternoon. AR.com’s Kate Flory reports that Andy was focusing on his forehand and hitting a number of backhands as well. All in all Brad Gilbert put him through a tough session and Andy responded with an afternoon of good strokes.
Andy’s fans that were lucky to catch the practice seemed to enjoy the up-close action. Andy practiced without a shirt, ’so the girls were really excited,” according to Kate.
Although he was concentrating on his strokes, Andy demonstrated that he was very loose and comfortable in Flushing Meadows were the world is waiting to see how his title defense pans out. At one point Brad hit a tough shot causing Andy to stumble and almost fall. This elicited a squeal from many of the fans watching. Andy flashed a smirk towards Brad and quipped, “I think they think you hit a good shot.”
Stay tuned for more up-close Andy action.
