Roddick Cruises To Round 2 With Win Over Juniors Champ

Andy began the defense of his US Open title last night against Scoville Jenkins, the reigning Kalamazoo Junior Champion. They had a long wait before the match due to the ladies match lasting over 2 hours (2:09 to be exact).

Andy wore a new shirt for his match, which had previously debuted at Stoke Park, England. The wait clearly didn’t upset Andy as he cruised through the first set in a mere 16 minutes. Jenkins was very nervous and struggled to rise to the occasion. He made several errors and didn’t do himself justice. Andy stamped his authority on the match with 2 rocketing body serves to let Jenkins know he meant business. His biggest serve of the night was clocked at 152 mph. He raced away to take the 1st set 6-0.

The 2nd set went in similar fashion but Jenkins did manage to get on the scoreboard after going down 0-2. When he held serve for the first time the crowd gave him a loud ovation and showed him lots of support throughout the night. But Andy did just what he had to and wrapped up the 2nd set 6-2.

After being tied at 1 in the 3rd Andy got his breakthrough in the set, breaking twice more and eventually riding out a 6-0, 6-2, 6-2 win, which he finished with an ace.

After the match Andy was interviewed by Michael Barkann and Andy said, ’scoville Jenkins got a little more into the match later. It was a great experience for him. Definitely look out for him in the juniors and as a future prospect.”
