A.roddick/a.agassi Match Report

The semifinals at the Cincy TMS event could not have given the crowd more to cheer for.

Two of the most charismatic players in the game, Andre Agassi and Andy Roddick, met for the first time in more than a year to battle it out for a spot in the final of the event preceding the Olympics.

Battle is the only way to describe the match. Only one break of serve seperated the score in the first set with Agassi leading 7-5. It was then do or die for Roddick to hang in during the second set tie break, which he went on to win.

The third set was just as intense, with both players refusing to surrender their serves, holding easily at times, while engaging one another in baseline battles and run around tactics at others.

Agassi was literally dripping with sweat and seemed to be the player he was last year when he became the oldest man to hold the World No. 1 ranking.

He served with pace and his ground strokes were as lethal as they have ever been.

But Roddick put up a great fight, until a few errors off of his racquet gave Agassi four match points, and eventually a spot in the finals.

Both men played high level tennis to the Nth degree and gave the crowd a spectacular night show, but at the end only one could prevail.

Next up for Roddick will be the Athens Games, which Agassi will not be participating in. It will be Roddick’s first Olympic appearance.
