Saturday Night Live’s Fred Armisen found out that sometimes its not good to be the King — as in tennis great Billie Jean King. Armisen, who has no tennis background, taped a segment with US Open champion Andy Roddick (host of the Nov. 8 episode) at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing on Friday where he plays King and challenges Roddick to Battle of the Sexes II, the follow-up to her classic match against Bobby Riggs thirty years ago. The match was taped in Arthur Ashe Stadium and marked the first time Roddick had been on the court since winning his first major title in September. Armisen surprised the producer by shaving his entire body, including under his arms, to play King, who turns 60 later this month. Armisen’s King taunts the 21-year-old world No. 1 men’s tennis player into the match and spends most of the time avoiding Roddick’s serve, which has been clocked as fast as 149 mph. “It was so fast,” said Armisen between takes. “I could hear it whizzing by my head. It’s pretty scary.” Roddick admits, “I was probably hitting about 110 (mph) at first but threw some around 125 towards the end. He moves fast, which helped.” Roddick dominates the match and even plays points reading a magazine and sipping tropical drinks from an old fashion beach lounge chair. Roddick’s girlfriend, singer/actress Mandy Moore, was not seen the National Tennis Center, but is expected to be at the NBC Studios on Saturday
