I was there…for the Spring Swing

“Spring Break 2008

We were on Marco Island for Spring Break, laying on the beach loving life, I get a text, my wife had just secured two front row tix for Andy and Federer. I Load up my son who is 8 and has everything Andy Roddick from signature junior sticks(4) to the team bag loaded with AR shoes and the entire show. We trek across alligator alley the 140+ miles and make it in to get our “Big” tennis ball and sit down.

Greatest first match and seats for any 8 year old who eats, sleeps and loves Andy Roddick. With the emotion’s that followed the win in Miami, autographing the ball would have to wait.

Three days later we are back on the road North to Indianapolis to drop of the 17 year old for school, pack up the 8 and 9 year olds and head to Winston/Salem for Davis Cup. What a way to Introduce both of our kid’s to the GREATEST fan’s in tennis. The Net Head’s and the rest of the USA fan’s. Our kid’s made it on the big screen several times and were later interviewed by the local FOX station.

It was really cool for them but nothing as cool as the autograph ball from the Sony
Ericsson being signed by Andy! After the final Blake match the guy’s were leaving the court and heading into the tunnel as we were directed down to the floor by the tournament director’s mother(the sweetest lady ever) where I overheard her telling a guard that she needed Andy to stop and sign the ball, he told her “no” and he was not to allow him to stop for autograph’s. She then told him “I just need this one and he can go”! The guard stepped
out of the way as Andy jogged up, she handed him the ball, he signed it and then off to the locker room. This entire event made two little kids happier than anything. Thanks for the moment! We will follow Andy anywhere!!
