Congratulations to Emily Symons and Sophie Homfray – April’s joint andyroddick.com Fans of the Month!

“Howdy!
Our names are Emily Symons and Sophie Homfray and we are without doubt Andy’s biggest fans. You probably get hundreds of people expressing how much they love Andy, but did any of them go through the journey we went through to see him?

Our dream was to go to the 2008 Australian Open so we both got part time jobs at the local supermarket. We saved our money and worked really hard to give ourselves the chance to experience our dream. It wasn’t just a half an hour trip in the tram – we live in Mildura, which is 600km to Melbourne. So after a seven hour bus trip we were finally in Melbourne, pumped and ready to see Andy.

Unfortunately we had pre-bought our tickets for the first Tuesday of the Aus Open and Andy wasn’t scheduled to play. We still went to the tennis wearing our Andy tops (pictured). We then got the idea that he would be practising, so we ventured out to the practice courts, but there was no sign of him. We were lucky enough that a random girl saw our tops and said “Hey Andy is practising on the other courts; have you seen him”? So with that news we sprinted through the crowd and were lucky enough to see him and get an autograph.

We then stood anxiously near the tournament tent waiting for the next day’s draw to be released. With the news that Andy would be playing Wednesday night, boy you should have seen us run to get tickets. Unfortunately. the match was sold out and we were crushed.

The next day we spend every second minute on the phone trying to get tickets but we had no luck, they were sold out. But we didn’t give up because we knew Andy would never do that. Going back to the caravan park, we decided to go on the internet and try for one very last time. It turned out that we got two tickets. So our dreams had come true and we got to see Andy Roddick. So, wearing our “we love Andy” shirts and singing our song, we cheered him to victory.
