Andy sizzled under the bright lights of Stadium Court, defeating Ivo Minar 7-6 (4),

The match kicked off at 7:00 PM under the setting sun with Andy appropriately firing an ace in the opening game. Andy held comfortably for 1-0 but Minar was not intimidated by the big serves and held his own. The Czech surprised many fans as the pair headed towards a tiebreaker. The most suspenseful game of the set was at 5 all on Andy’s serve. Minar mastered some clever passing shots and took the American to deuce. “Common Andy” echoed throughout the stadium as the crowd enjoyed the competitive spirit of each player. Ivo picked on Andy’s backhand, but Andy held for 6-5 and within minutes the pair reached a much anticipated tie-break. A mini break on the second point gave Andy 2-0. The two traded mini breaks a few points later but a forgiving net strap on set point sealed the first set 7-6 (4).

Andy powered into the second set with an early break. Minar continued to battle but Andy was determined and ferociously fought for 4-3. Ivo earned his first break opportunity of the match and put the second set back on serve 4-4. But Andy was not looking to make it a late night and he broke Minar again for 5-4. After an hour and forty minutes of play, Andy booked himself into the fourth round of the Sony Ericsson Open where he will face Frenchman Julien Benneteau.
