Congratulations to Alice James, Andy’s March Fan of the Month.

“G’day! My name is Alice James, I am sixteen years old and I am from Melbourne, Australia.

“It’s going to be difficult to express how much of a fan I am of Andy Roddick in just a few hundred words, but just like Andy, I will give my best shot!

I have been a massive fan of Andy’s forever!! I have been to every game Andy has played in the AAMI classic since 2005. This year, I even got heat stroke from the 43 degree Celsius day he played. I continuously track his happenings around the world and even convinced my parents to get cable so I could watch many of his televised games. I found a white hat which looks a lot like Andy’s white Lacoste hat, I got his autograph on the peak and hardly ever take it off!

“At the AAMI classic in 2005, I was watching Andy play against Nicolas Kiefer. The game had only just begun when Kiefer sprained his ankle and forfeited. Andy began serving to a competition winner who could not return the serve. He then started having a hit with a ball boy. He continuously kept beating the ball boy so Andy asked the court announcer for a boy and girl from the crowd. I was the lucky girl selected! I got to go out on court, hold Andy’s hand and get pulled around the court like a snake. It was the best day ever! A photographer captured the moment of me and Andy and my family had the photo blown up and framed. It now hangs in prime position in our living room for everyone to see.

“I had the cartilage in my knee replaced in 2006 and I haven’t been able to run or participate in active sport since and have to wait another year. I used to play tennis, basketball, netball and soccer but my injury put a stop to this! I look up to Andy for inspiration (especially when I am working hard on my boring rehabilitation physio) in the hope that one day I can get back on the court just like Andy.
