Andy Roddick produced another fine display of serving as he powered his way to a straight-sets victory over Michael Berrer at the Australian Open.
Roddick won the second-round clash 6-2 6-2 6-4 during the evening session in Melbourne to book his place in the last 32.
He landed 75 per cent of his first serves in court - and when that happens most of Roddick’s opponents will be in trouble.
With Berrer managing just 38 per cent on his his first delivery in the opening set, he soon found himself a set down and afrer briefly holding his own at the start of the second set, the left-hander lost four games in a row to fall two sets behind.
Berrer, who made too many unforced errors throughout the match, finally got a chance to break Roddick’s fearsome serve in the second game of the third set and after missing two break points he made it third time lucky as he launched a fightback.
However, it was short lived.
From 3-0 up Berrer won just one more game.
An easy smash buried into the net summed up his frustrating day and although he saved four match points on his own serve, he was powerless to prevent Roddick serving out to complete a straight-sets win.
The sixth seed now faces a third-round clash with Philipp Kohlschreiber.
