Rafael Nadal and Andy Roddick powered into the third round of the Australian Open with straight set victories on Wednesday on their way to a potential quarter-final showdown.Second seed Nadal crushed 88th-ranked Frenchman Florent Serra, 6-0, 6-2, 6-2 in just an hour and 34 minutes.
Roddick needed five match points and a bit more time to wear down the 54th-ranked German Michael Berrer 6-2, 6-2, 6-4 in one hour 58 minutes.
The big-serving American, a three semi-finalist here, will have a third round match against another German, Philipp Kohlschreiber, and is on track to meet Nadal in a blockbuster quarter-final.
Elsewhere, Russian fourth seed Nikolay Davydenko, who is at the centre of an investigation into a betting scandal following his defeat by Argentine Martin Vassallo Arguello in Poland last August, eased past Frenchman Nicolas Mahut 6-4, 6-0, 6-3.
