American Andy Roddick has powered through to the second round, disposing of Czech world No.154 Lukas Dlouhy in straight sets on Vodafone Arena.
The No.6 seed was largely untroubled throughout the match, winning 76 per cent of points on his first serve.
In contrast, doubles specialist Dlouhy committed 44 unforced errors to just 11 from the American.
The pair traded early breaks in the first set before Roddick broke again in the sixth game for a 4-2 lead.
Three errors in the ninth game from Dlouhy handed Roddick the first set, 6-3.
The American was economical throughout the second set, stealing an early break for a 2-0 lead after an errant half-volley from Dlouhy.
