Day 23 - USA Davis Cup Champs
Andy’s first rubber win over Dmitry Tursunov in the Davis Cup final against Russia set the USA up with a great opportunity to bring the trophy home – and it was a chance that they did not pass up.

Straight out on court after Andy was James Blake who took on Mikhail Youzhny. Playing second is never an easy task, but James rose to the occasion and thrilled the thousands of USA supporters with a four set victory to give Team USA a 2-0 lead in the tie.

James’ victory gave Bob and Mike Bryan and chance to secure the tie and the trophy for the USA. The World No. 1 doubles pairing, who have a near perfect Davis Cup record, duly followed through with a straight sets victory over Igor Andreev and Nikolay Davydenko to crown Team USA 2007 Davis Cup Champions!

Quotes:

To be here and bring the Cup back to the States is an amazing feeling. But more important, just to share the journey with these guys, it’s just been so much fun. For us to have our moment, I feel like we really do deserve it.
We’ve been the ultimate team, and it’s just been a blast and it’s been an honor to be a part of that.

To come in here and to share this with these guys and to have developed the friendships and everything that goes along with it, the laughs and the tears, it’s just amazing.
I think we’re trying as best we can to enjoy this. It’s definitely on par with anything that I’ve accomplished in tennis.
