“I was There… in Boca Raton!” II

The end of 2007 is near, and we hope you have enjoyed our new “I was there” feature. We’ve really enjoyed reading reports from a fan’s perspective. Long may they continue in 2008!

But before we reach ‘08, we can squeeze in a couple more. This one comes from Deanna Reeves, who attended the 7th Annual Andy Roddick Foundation event in Boca Raton.

“Ok so Andy’s Groupies me, my mom, Kelli and Stacey arrived in Boca on Thursday. We did a little sight seeing had some dinner did some shopping. Friday, our other member Jesmarie came in and we picked her up and headed to the mall for some more shopping. We had some good times SHOES! Haha. So anyways Saturday finally rolls around and we went to go get some lunch and did a little more shopping yes we’re girls we need to shop. Then we headed back to the hotel to start getting ready for the dinner that night.

So there was 4 of us in the same room that was fun trying to get ready with everyone else but we managed to do it and we headed to the Broken Sound Club. We got there and were escorted by Marines inside. We walked around a little Andy hadn’t arrived yet. Finally he did but he went to go practice his speech. So they finally told us we could start going in and we were one of the first ones in the room and Andy was standing there kind of greeting everyone so we went up to him to talk. So we were standing there kind of chatting and then I see him leaning in for a hug and I was like ok Andy’s going to hug me haha. That was cool LOL. So anyways we all take our picture with him and we give him our present and some Christmas cards and we go to find our table. Dinner was good then the dancing started Andy didn’t stay long and then we noticed the present got left so we took it to make sure we could still get it to Andy. We talked to Ken for a little bit and he said just to bring it the next day and he’d make sure Andy took it this time haha. So we stayed til the end then it was time to leave. Kelli made friends with the DJ haha. So it was pretty good night.

The next day we got up pretty early after having a late night before. And we all got ready in our ‘Andy’s Groupies’ shirts and headed to the Boca Pointe club for a day of tennis. We got there super early and had to wait around til they let us in at 12:30. So finally we got seated and waited for the tennis to start. First up was Andy/Brenda vs. James/Maria. That was pretty funny Andy kept saying that James went to Harvard and that he barely graduated high school but that he still had as many college degrees as James haha. And then he asked James if he had dropped out because he was pregnant. It was pretty funny. And then Andy and Maria went back in forth impersonating each other that was good fun. But in the end Andy and Brenda came out the winner.

So then it was Andy vs. James lot of laughs there I still think something was mentioned about James and not graduating Harvard haha. Andy was just having a good ole time and James beat him 6-3. Then they did a super tiebreaker with Boyd, Brenda and someone named Howie. Andy and Howie won. So then it was time for the return of serve. So I had to go line up with everyone else. I hadn’t hit many tennis balls this year I only hit a few the other day right before we left to go to Florida so I was a little nervous on how I was going to do. So I get up there and Andy’s first serve was a let so he was like LET! Haha and then the next one I got back and hit a few then I tried to hit it hard and it caught the tape and didn’t make it over. And Andy goes whoa trouble! Haha and the DJ was like wow a change up haha. The next one I didn’t get back but the 3rd one was a pretty good rally I hit it to Andy’s backhand and he goes ‘Uh oh she knows my weakness!’ Haha it was great I came into net but my last volley was just long and me and Andy shared a little look then my time was up. So I headed back to my seat.

So at the end everyone went to go line up for autographs . We got in line and waited and then when it was our turn the lady saw our shirts and goes ‘Andy I got GROUPIES!’ Haha and Andy goes ‘Its my girls!’ So we all got Andy to sign something and we gave him the present again. We had a little trouble with the bag it broke so we had to put it in a plastic bag and Kelli put it up on the table and Andy kind of stared at it funny and she goes ‘I think you forgot something last night’ and Andy put his head down and sighed and goes ‘Dang it I’m sorry’ haha. So we talked to him for a minute and then we walked off.We kind of hung around to see if maybe we could take a group picture with him but at first they weren’t going to let us so we were kind of hanging back we didn’t really want to bother him more but my mom and Kelli were trying to ask either Andy or Ken. So my mom finally got Andy’s attention and asks him and he goes ‘Yeah come over by the cup it’s better over there.’

So we followed him to where they had the Davis Cup set up and we all got up there and he was like ‘How do we want to do this? Do we want to do individual s?’And we were like nah just a group shot don’t want to take up any more of his time we knew he was ready to go. So we got our picture and we thanked him and he told us to have safe travels. So we headed to the bus and then we had to sit there for a little bit and then we caught a sight of Andy walking out and it looked like he had our present with him haha. So we were excited and we ended the day and the weekend on a good note!

This was by far the funnest year I think it just keeps getting better. I can’t wait until next year!”
