We’ve heard from those of you who helped Andy to celebrate a Davis Cup victory, but just a week later, many of you joined Andy to do something just as wonderful: raise money for underprivileged children!
Thanks to those of you who have written in to share your experiences with us. First up is Stacey Sjog.
“I can’t believe I got too see Andy and the rest of the Davis Cup team take home the trophy in Portland!!! But I also got to attend the 7th annual charity event in Boca Raton. First off I want to say how PROUD I am of Andy, James, Bob and Mike for the brilliant tennis they played at Davis Cup, the USA team really deserved it! Now on to Florida.
So this year (being Deanna and my 3rd year) was a blast as always. We added to our “Andy Groupies”, and made some wonderful new friends. We arrived at the dinner and were escorted by the marines again. =) Broken Sound is also another beautiful venue to host the dinner. Only downside was it was a little packed in so we decided to go outside to wait. But we did look at the auction items, which are always fun to see. This year they were even including a dog as an auction item. Poor thing was shaking, but really cute. We could see Andy practicing his speech. He always looks so nervous, but does great! We were finally let into the dinner area, and got to say “hi” to Andy. We all took pictures with him, and gave the present we all bought together. (hopefully he liked it) Then we took our seats. Got to hear about all the wonderful things the Andy Roddick Foundation is doing. We then ate a yummy meal, as always. Did a little dancing. Then that was the end of our day. But we were excited for some tennis on Sunday.
Sunday came and we got dressed in our “Andy’s Groupies” T-shirts. Deanna and I put them together this year, they came out good. Everyone always is telling us a the event, how much they love our shirts. So they did the whole kids day events, then we took our seats. First up was Andy with Brenda vs James and Maria in mix doubles. They had us all cracking up from the get go. Like Andy’s comment how the other team was the “good looking” team. Or that he has as many degrees as James, even though James went to Harvard. Yeah it was some good stuff. Then it was Andy vs. James, again some great shots and some funny jokes. Andy had some friends in the crowd that were quite funny, these guys actually had a whole choreographed dance to “I’m too sexy…” it was great! Then last but not least it was Andy with some guy I didn’t recognize vs Boyd and Brenda. Then Andy did his return of serve. Deanna was awesome and got some good rallies going with Andy. Way to go D!
Afterward Andy sign autographs, so we got in line. When we got to the front the lady goes “Andy we got Groupies” haha. Then Andy goes “It’s my girls”, we got to chat a little with Andy. He was sweet as can be, as always. Said goodbye to Ken Meyerson (Andy’s manager) too, who is super nice as well. We waited around for a little while to see if maybe we could snag a group shot with Andy. Unfortunately the ladies working it said he wasn’t doing any photos. But then when Deanna’s mom asked Andy, he told her that we should follow him and take the picture by the Davis Cup trophy. So we did, and what a treasure that photo is. Us with Andy, and the DAVIS CUP trophy what more could you ask for? But yeah another fun weekend came to an end. Can’t wait for next year! Hopefully more and more people will come. Also if you see us, make sure to come say “Hi”. Thanks Andy for everything you do!”
Next up is Deanna Reeves report. If you have not yet written to us, the address is iwasthere@andyroddick.com.
