“I was there when Andy won Davis Cup!”

I consider myself so lucky. Not only was I able to attend the Davis cup finals in portland, but I was able to join the netheads! My Grandmother’s cousin Tim is one of the netheads, and since I live in Eugene, OR, he bought my tickets for the final! He is obviously my favorite cousin now! This was the most amazing experience of my life, at least so far.I arrived in Portland on Thursday, missing a few classes on Friday since it was dead week at my college. Another one of my cousins, Sami, also came with us. We went to a nethead meeting at 9 that night to get our shirts and tickets. Then we went out with some of the other netheads for awhile, and got to know some of them. The next morning we met up again at the hotel, where we saw Mr Bryan. He said Hi to us as he went to hand out shirts himself.
Then we headed to the venue. My cousin Sami and I were pretty much skipping on the way from the Max to the Colisseum. We were already wearing our shirts and nets, so we got quite a few weird looks! We were so excited, with it being our first davis cup experience. I went to the US Open this year, but you must know that it is NOTHING compared to Davis Cup. Once we got in and everything started, the atmosphere was so amazing. Where I had got weird looks for yelling alot at the Open, I was being told to yell louder by the Netheads! We were sitting right behind the band, so sometimes they would play along with our cheers, or play songs we could cheer to.
When Andy first came out, I was so excited I swear I almost jumped over the bar in front of me into the band! Andy has been my favorite player for a long time. Watching his match and cheering so loud was amazing. And being in the netheads, knowing people could hear you was even better! James’ match was much more nerve racking than Andy’s. I started cheering even louder, which I sometimes surprise myself as to how loud I can get. When it comes to tennis, my energy supply is pretty much unlimited!
After the match, we hung out with some of the netheads more. Of course we never really got much sleep while we were there. Once you wake up, its impossible to get back to sleep since you start thinking about the matches for that day!
Now the doubles match on Saturday was amazing. Sami and I were so excited, which was probably obvious since everyone kept taking pictures of us! That is one thing about the netheads, lots of people come up and take pictures of them. One of the netheads was nice enough to get us some of the Mike and Bob heads, so we had those to wave around during the match. Andy was chewing his nails the entire match. We were jumping up and down pretty much the entire match, and when it was over and the US had finally won, everything was so exciting. The bryans hugged each other, then Andy, James, Mardy and Robby cleared the net and jumped into it. When they were running the flag around it looked like Andy was crying. I was so happy for them I think I might have started crying myself! They really deserved to win it, the team has been so dedicated.
Saturday night some of the netheads I guess found the player party. I wasn’t with them unfortunately, since I won’t be 21 until April. I was so jealous! At least I was able to tell Mike and Bob congratulations, and I told Bob good luck on sunday! We were able to get their autographs, and Dmitry Tursunovs’ too. I was hoping to get close to Andy, but that unfortunately didn’t happen. Still happy I got to go!
Sundays matches were alot of fun, since everything was more relaxed. My cousin had almost completely lost her voice, so I was cheering twice as much to make up for it. I’m left-handed, so I felt it was my job to make sure Bob got plenty of cheering! Then during the second match, everyone was so loud trying to help James come back and win his match. A couple times the netheads got the entire stadium laughing. James had to stop a few seconds a couple times because he was smiling too.
That night we had to say goodbye to the other netheads. They obviously loved our energy, since they invited us to come to more of the events. And I loved it so much, when I have money I will be there again!
I would like to say thank you to Andy and the Davis Cup team, the netheads, and everyone else for such an amazing experience!”
