Tickets for the Davis Cup final sold out in less than a half an hour, but kids can sing their way into the final in a matter of minutes. The USTA today announced it will host an open casting call on Thursday, November 8 for children to perform the national anthem at the Davis Cup final between the United States and Russia, Nov. 30-Dec. 2. Auditions are free.
Several children will be selected to sing at Portland’s Memorial Coliseum, with anticipated performances before each match. The event builds on a tradition begun at this year’s U.S. Open, where children sang prior to the evening sessions in Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The auditions will be held at Memorial Coliseum, 4-8 p.m. Pacific time. Children 11 years of age and younger will be asked to sing the “Star Spangled Banner” a cappella in front of a panel of judges from the Portland area. The tryouts will be conducted on a first-come, first-served basis and offer the chance of a lifetime to the performers as well as an opportunity for fans in the sold-out venue to see some of the region’s young musical talent.
The USTA will announce the final selections on Monday, November 19. The winners will receive four tickets to their performance session — in addition to exposure in front of 12,000 fans in Memorial Coliseum.
