“I was there…at WTT”

Andy’s had a busy October, training for Davis Cup and supporting various charitable causes. Once more you’ve been on the scene, letting us know a fan’s experience from the digs on road with Andy.Shante Justin attended World Team Tennis with Andy, Billie Jean King, Elton John, Lindsay Davenport and many other stars. Shante wrote into AR.com to share her experience.

“I came all the from Chester to Villanova to see the World Team Tennis
event. And boy was it worth it. They started letting people in around 5:00 pm. I wanted to get in the arena as soon as I possibly could in hopes of getting an early glimpse of Andy. Well I didn’t get an early glimpse of Andy. But I finally found
out that my seat was a pretty damn good one. From where I was sitting I could see the court.

So any way, when 7:00 pm hit, things stared to settle down and the announcer started to calling all the players and the two coaches one by one. My heart starts pounding. I was getting more nervous by the minute. Then the announcer says “Andy Roddick” . My mouth hit the floor. I’d woken up at 3:00 in the morning to see him play. And I couldn’t believe I was looking at him in real life. Talk about a mind freak!

The first match up, was the Celebrity doubles. It was Anna Kournikova /
Lindsay Davenport vs. Elton John / Andy Roddick. The guys won that match. The ladies put up a pretty good fight. They came up with some amazing shots. I was surprised, but Elton John held his own. He won’t be giving any of the top ten men players a run for there money, but he did good. And of course Andy played excellent. He’s not in the top ten for nothing,. At one point during the match Andy was up at the net rallying the ball back and forth with Anna Kournikova. It seemed like he was up at the net forever. It was a very funny moment. But finally he won that point.

The next match was the men’s doubles match. It was Andy Roddick / Luke Jensen vs. John Isner / Patrick McEnroe. I felt pretty nervous for the people who were sitting behind Andy and John. With those two playing against each other you knew that balls were going to be flying every where. At one point Patrick McEnroe served and ace. Patrick made the announcer say out loud “ Patrick – 1 , Andy – 0”. The whole crowd erupted in laughter. Soon after that, when Andy was serving Patrick hoped over the plexi and went into the stands as a joke, to try and return Andy’s serve. Later on in the match Andy accidentally hit Patrick in his back with a ball. Andy made the
announcer say “ Body count Andy – 1, Patrick – 0”. That had to be my favorite moment of the match.

One of my favorite parts of the night was the mixed doubles match between John Isner / Lindsay Davenport vs. Andy Roddick / Corina Morariu. Andy and Corina played as best as they could. Corina at one point during the match stood on a chair to try and return John Isner’s serve. Andy even hit a really awesome shot between his legs, but it wasn’t enough. John and Lindsay won anyway.

I think they saved the best match for last. It was a rematch : Andy vs. John Isner. I saw them play each other at the Legg Mason Tennis Classic on TV but It was way better watching it in person. Andy won the men’s singles match. Because Andy won the match, it had to go into overtime. John won the second game of the overtime. Team Elton won.

Even though the team Andy was playing on (Team Billie Jean) lost. I still had an awesome time at World Team Tennis. I hope I get to see Andy play a lot more in the future. Possibly at next years US Open!”
