Roger Federer beat Fernando Gonzalez to successfully defend his Australian Open title in January. The reigning Oz Open champ and runner-up will reunite to headline the field at the 20th anniversary edition of the AAMI Classic set for Jan. 9-12 in Kooyong.
Andy Roddick, Tommy Haas, Ivan Ljubicic, Andy Murray and Marat Safin have also committed to competing in the eight-man of the popular exhibition that serves as a tune-up tournament for the Australian Open. The final spot in the AAMI field has yet to be finalized.
A year ago, Roddick scored straight sets win over Haas and Murray to reach the final where he surprised Federer, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, to take the title for the second straight year. The World No. 1 avenged that loss weeks later when he routed Roddick, 6-4, 6-0, 6-2, in the Australian Open semifinals.
