Delware Online: Brengle to join stars in WTT charity event

Dover resident Madison Brengle and Davis Cup captain Patrick McEnroe have been added to the field for the 2007 Advanta World TeamTennis Smash Hits, a charity tennis event co-hosted by Billie Jean King and Elton John on Oct. 10 at Villanova University.

Brengle and McEnroe will be featured with Andy Roddick, Lindsay Davenport, Anna Kournikova, John Isner and Corina Morariu.

The event raises funds for the Elton John AIDS Foundation and local charity ActionAIDS and has raised more than $8 million in its 15-year history. Elton John will open the evening with a celebrity doubles match before the two teams of top professionals hit the courts for five sets of WTT action.

Brengle, ranked No. 237 on the WTA Tour, is expected to face Davenport in the women’s singles match. The 17-year-old reached the girls singles final at the Australian Open and Wimbledon, and is ranked a career-high No. 5 in the ITF World Junior Rankings.
