Andy Roddick, who says his kitchen skills are lackluster, cooked with celebrity chefs as the guests at the Dacor Taste of Tennis charity event Thursday in Manhattan.
Roddick, the 2003 United States Open champion, is seeded fifth this year and will face a fellow American, Justin Gimelstob, in the first round. MICHAEL S. SCHMIDT
FAVORITE TV SHOW “The Office.”
FAVORITE CHARACTER ON THE SHOW Steve Carell is amazing. It is the only show you can watch by yourself in some random city in Europe and cringe — but in a good way.
FAVORITE MOVIE “The Shawshank Redemption.”
FAVORITE FOOD A good steak.
THREE DINNER GUESTS Muhammad Ali, my mom, and I don’t know.
ONE PERSON YOU TALK TO EVERY DAY Probably not every day, but I travel with my brother and my trainer year-round. I see them every day.
IF YOU COULD HAVE A SUPERPOWER Probably flying.
BEST PART OF THE OPEN The crowd. It is the biggest show in tennis. The lights, the people, everything. It is nice to see tennis affect New York — it is a tough thing to do. We get here a week before and just get ready for it to start.
FAVORITE SPORT TO WATCH BESIDES TENNIS It changes, but Nebraska Cornhuskers football rules my life. I have gotten into the N.F.L., too, because of fantasy football. I won last year. Our draft is tomorrow, so I am a little nervous.
DO YOU READ A LOT? I am reading the last Harry Potter book. I like James Patterson and, along with everyone else, I really like Dan Brown’s books. And I like biographies.
IF YOU WEREN’T PLAYING I’d probably be in my eighth year of college, trying to qualify for my third Beer Olympiad.
