Andy: AA Kids Day Preview

Andy on Center Court at the US Open is nothing new, neither is his love for kids or ablility to entertain. What is new is this year’s star lineup of activities and events for the Arthur Ashe Kids Day, headlining the day’s exhibition match with Andy against Roger Federer on Saturday, August 25, 2008. With special guest appearances from X-games pro Tony Hawk and “Welcome to the Roxbury” actor Chris Kattan, it’s going to be a must-see show.

The grounds of the newly-named USTA Billy Jean King National Tennis Center will be bouncing with music, tennis players, and of course the little yellow fuzzy thing they hit back and forth. Starting at 10am, the gates will open and you can join the festivities for free. The outer courts will have pro’s practicing all day, games, and clinics you can participate in. The Hess Obstacle Course, NikeGO Tennis, Beat the Pro, facepainting, juggling, and autograph sessions are just to name a few. At 1pm, though, Arthur Ashe Stadium opens up and the crowd gets ready for the pre-show which begins at 1:15pm, followed by a 2 o’clock official start.

On Center Court, they have added a stage in the corner of the stadium for the day where Sean Kington, Kat Deluna, the Jonas Brothers, and Lil Mama will be getting the crowd all fired up for some on-court action at 2pm. This is when Andy comes out. With a live microphone hooked up to him, you’ll be able to hear the commentary on court between him and Roger and the referee, and who could forget last year’s banter between Agassi, Ellen Degeneres, and him. The leaping hug was priceless!

So hop of the LIRR and take the train to Shea Stadium where you’ll be front and center between the Mets and the Man, Andy. Tickets are still available for the 2pm show for $10 for upper row seating and $20 for loge. Mark your calendars, it’s a day you’ll want to see for yourself. If you can’t make it, don’t worry, CBS is covering the day and doing a recap on Sunday from 12-1:30pm. Come on down and experience that last, most important stop on the Greatest Road Trip in Sports.
