Floridian, Mardy Fish will open up this weekend’s Davis Cup rubbers, against Jonas Bjorkman on Friday. It’s a best of five sets match. Fish has played Bjorkman just once before, at Nottingham last year, which Fish won in three sets.
Fish will be followed by old house-mate, Andy Roddick who will take on Sweden’s Thomas Enqvist. Andy has played Enqvist three times before, with Enqvist winning two of the encounters, including the most recent one at Memphis this year. However, looking at recent results doesn’t really give a good preview of a Davis Cup match, as most players, especially the Americans and Swedes are very passionate about Davis Cup, and with the support of their fans behind them have been known to produce extraordinary results!
Saturday sees the doubles with the Bryan twins representing the USA, taking on Jonas Bjorkman and Thomas Johansson. Then on Sunday the Delray Beach crowd will be delighted with the reverse singles which features Andy taking on Bjorkman first, followed by Fish against Enqvist.
Play will begin at 2.00pm on Friday and will be covered on TV in the USA, Great Britain, Sweden and Asia.
