Andy faces Paul-Henri Mathieu in a fourth round French test at Wimbledon. The pair will take Center Court third on Monday with the day’s play starting earlier to make up for rain delays.
The two have played once in the juniors, and once on the pro tour where Mathieu surprised Andy 7-5, 6-3 in the Master Series in Canada in 2005.
“He got me the first round,” Andy recalls. “But, you know, this is different territory. It’s the fourth round of a Grand Slam. I don’t think he’s ever been to the quarters. Mentally I feel like I have a bit of an edge going in. He’s beaten some quality, quality players in the first three rounds, with Stepanek, Ferrer and Ljubicic. They’ve all been pretty comfortable. That’s quite a statement. I’m definitely aware that he’s playing good tennis.”
Well aware of the Frenchman’s capabilities, Andy is prepared for the Fourth Round. Check out some stats on Mathieu:
