Verdasco Challenge At Wimbledon

On Friday, Andy will face Fernando Verdasco in the third round of Wimbledon. These two have had some intense battles in the past, and although they’ve never met on grass before, we think we can safely predict to watch out for some cracking forehands!

Fernando Verdasco from Spain, currently ranked 41 is an accomplished player on all surfaces. Last year he reached the fourth round of SW19, which is his best result to date. Andy will be hoping to stop Verdasco from matching that feat. Andy and Verdasco have met eight times before, with Andy holding a commanding 6-2 lead over the Spaniard.

Below are Verdasco’s stats courtesy of the ATP:

Birthdate: 15-Nov-83
Birthplace: Madrid, Spain
Residence: Madrid, Spain
Height: 6’2’’ (187 cm)
Weight: 179 lbs (81 kg)
Plays: Left-handed
Turned Pro: 2001
Coach: Jose Clavet

Talking about playing Verdasco, Andy commented,

“I mean, there’s no question about his talent, kind of what he’s capable of. We’ve played many times. Never on grass. I don’t know if there are going to be a lot of secrets out there.”
