Q. Have you ever seen a guy hit forehands like that against you?
ANDY RODDICK: Yeah, he hit some pretty good ones, not only when, you know, he was set, he was hitting them kind of running this way, kind of doing what he wanted with it. It was pretty impressive.
I’ve had some disappointing losses here, but I actually felt like I played okay today, considering, you know. So, you know, I think a lot of the credit has to go to him, you know. I think this is a little bit different than the other years. I felt like I hit the ball all right.
Q. It was going well for about an hour and he suddenly seemed to catch fire?
ANDY RODDICK: Well, you know, up a set, 4‑2 ‑‑ actually the game I got broken at 4‑3, I didn’t miss a ball, and he hit some pretty good shots.
Where it kind of got away from me was the last game of that second set. I played a little bit of a poor game. And then the third set, he just ‑‑ he played lights out. I didn’t really get a chance to hit many balls. The fourth set, I feel like, you know, he had ‑‑ he took his opportunity and broke, and then I had a lot of chances to get it back.
I feel like the fourth set was a little bit more even. But, you know, it didn’t happen.
Q. How much different was it than a match on hard courts? It seemed like you were both hitting hard today. Would it been that much difference on hard courts?
ANDY RODDICK: Really?
Q. You had a lot of hard hitting, you were both serving big in stretches.
ANDY RODDICK: Yeah. I think the ‑‑
Q. You got the pace.
ANDY RODDICK: No, no, no. Yeah, I mean, I think it’s a different match, you know. He’s not running as many balls down. I don’t know if my ball scoots through just that much quicker, I don’t know if he can hit those while back‑pedalling. A split second makes a huge difference in tennis points. So I feel like the surface definitely makes a difference. You know, I just got to figure something out.
