Congratulations to Sophie, AndyRoddick.com’s May Fan of the Month. Sophie was nominated by her Mom, check out her entry:
“I would like to nominate my daughter, Sophie, as fan of the month. Andy has been her role model and inspiration for such a long time. Continually wearing Andy’s “No Compromise” bracelet has kept her focused over the tough years of studies and goal to be accepted into Rice University, where she will start in August. Although she hasn’t been able to play tennis as much as she used to because of her schoolwork, she has passionately followed Andy’s career from the beginning, never missing any of his matches. She can talk in detail about all of them and is extremely knowledgeable about anything that has to do with tennis. Her room is plastered with framed Andy pictures and even my parents in England send her newspaper cuttings for her walls too – although the slight problem is that she seems to be running out of space!
Andy’s charitable efforts have also inspired Sophie. She loves children, and apart from being very active in many service activities, she spent two summers at an orphanage in Bolivia, which was for her a truly life changing experience and served to reinforce her desire to become a pediatrician. Sophie’s varied service efforts have been recognized at school and in the community, and I know she will always be dedicated to helping others in need. All the while, Andy’s commitment to his foundation has served as a continual reminder of the good work people can do for others.
She thoroughly enjoyed attending Houston’s Men’s Clay Court Tournament two weeks ago, but like many was disappointed that Andy couldn’t compete due to injury. However, she was lucky enough to be able to see him at Westside for the past three years, including the Masters Cup and Claycourt tournaments, and would stay at the club from morning to very late in the evening catching Andy practice or play. Safe to say she has never missed an opportunity to meet Andy when he’s come to Houston, and everybody knows her for her unwavering admiration of Andy.
This week brought the perfect opportunity to meet Andy – we traveled from Houston to Austin for his appearance at the new Lacoste store. What a great experience – Andy was so gracious and patient from the first signing to the last, and she was SO happy to finally meet him and get a picture with him. Now having met him myself, I fully understand the impact he has had on her. She’s really looking forward to attending his charity event in Florida!
She was so pleased to read he’d won the Arthur Ashe Humanitarian Award. As a parent, I can’t think of a better role model for my daughter as he is a dedicated star athlete and humanitarian.
Thank you Andy!”
Well done to Sophie and thanks to her Mom for writing in! Remember, if you’d like to be Fan of the Month, or know someone who would be perfect for it, then drop us a line with a photo of the nominee at fanmonth@andyroddick.com.
Good luck everyone!
