Winston-Salem city leaders said hosting the Davis Cup quarterfinals over Easter weekend could not have gone any better.
The matches between the United States and Spain drew an attendance of 43,359 into the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum Friday, April 6 through Sunday, April 8. Each day of play was sold out.
The tournament generated an estimated $5.7 million into the local economy. Stephan Dragisic, Visit Winston-Salem’s tourism director, said the city also benefited from worldwide exposure, as well as support from the U.S. Tennis Association.
