Andy Defeats Hanescu

Andy vs. Tommy Robredo

Thursday Oct 30. The match is scheduled to be played fourth on Central court, following an 11.30am start (central european time)

The number 2 seed, Andy Roddick successfully defeated Victor Hanescu 7-6(4), 7-6(4) in the second round of TMS Madrid. Andy had a shaky start though losing his serve in the first game of the match. Henescu showed nerves when serving for the first set and despite having two set points, was unable to take the set. Andy again showed his fighting spirit when he went down a mini break in the tie break, but eventually came through to win the set 7-4 in the tie break!

In the second set, Andy upped his level and hit some superb volleys and passing shots to take the match to a second tie break. Andy was never threatened in this breaker, he took an early mini break and held onto it to seal victory!

In the next round, he will face Tommy Robredo of Spain. Andy has a perfect 5-0 record over the Spaniard, although they have never played on indoor carpet.
