Earlier in the week, Andy joked that his big test would be getting past ‘Freaky Friday’.
“I’ve got to get past what I call “freaky Friday” where I turn an ankle or pull a back muscle or I do something.”
Lu will be Andy’s test on freaky Friday. This is the first meeting between Andy and Lu. Lu, currently ranked 90 in the world, has given some top players a run for their money so far this year, including Haas and Safin. Enjoying his most successful run at a top level tournament this year, Lu has overcome Guccione and Melzer to reach the quarter finals.
Following his win over Becker, Andy is feeling confident about his game, going into this match.
“I thought I outplayed him from the baseline today. And I started hitting my forehand much better.”
“I hit it great in the Czech Republic (in Davis Cup) and then last week I don’t know if I could have hit a forehand into the sea from the beach. But I feel much better about my game now.”
It’s back to the scoreboard to follow this quarterfinal. The Memphis site provides the live scoreboard.
