TennisNews.com: Tickets selling fast for USA Davis Cup tie in Winston-Salem

Patrick McEnroe’s team hoped for a capacity crowd at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and it looks like their wish will come true.

Tickets for USA’s quarterfinal clash with Spain, which will take place on 6-8 April, sold more than 11,000 3-day tickets on the first day of public sale. Tickets sold at such a brisk pace that USTA officials have chosen to open the upper deck and put additional tickets on sale. The USTA held a pre-sale last week which sold out in four hours. The capacity for the Coliseum is 14,4000 for a tennis event. The US team last played at the Coliseum in Winston-Salem in 2001 when they overcame India in a World Group Play-off tie.

The match could feature three of the top six players in the world. No. 4 Andy Roddick and No. 6 James Blake have been mainstays on the US Davis Cup team along with the world’s No. 1 doubles team, Bob and Mike Bryan. No. 2 Rafael Nadal is expected to represent Spain.
