SAP: All-American Showdown

In Thursday’s second round, Andy will take on his practice buddy and American rising star, Sam Querrey. They will take to the court as the second match on the evening session. The first match starts at 10.00pm EST.

Querrey, who often travels with the U.S. Davis Cup team as a practice parter, blitzed his way into the second round of the SAP Open with a straight sets win over Paul Goldstein. Jumping over 600 places in the rankings in 2006, Querrey is now ranked at 92. He even had a chance to practice with legend, Pete Sampras, last week.

A frequent visitor to Austin, as Andy’s practice partner, Sam Querrey has had a strong start to the season, impressively reaching the third round of the Australian Open. At just 19, and standing at 6’6”, Andy rates the young Californian highly.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if he is in the top 30 or top 25 by the end of the year. I don’t think there are going to be too many rallies. He serves from a tree.”

With big serving and a fast court, look for this match to be a quick mover. Speaking about the court surface after his win over Dancevic yesterday, Andy said,

“I think it’s quicker than any place I played last year. It helps my serve a little bit and I feel like I’m decent at hitting the ball through the court. It can also work a little bit as an equalizer when someone is hot on serve it can be tough to break.”

You can watch the match via live streaming or you can follow on the live scoreboard. Both are available on the SAP Open site: sapopentennis.com.
