Shortly after the 2007 Australian Open draw was completed in the Skyline Room outside of Rod Laver Arena at Melbourne Park earlier this week, speculations of the potential match-ups began. Seeded 6th, Andy was drawn in the same half as returning champion and World Number 1, Roger Federer. Fans are already drooling over the possibility of Andy facing 2005 champion, Russian Marat Safin in the third round. With eight former No.1s in the opening Grand Slam, it is simply opinion as to who faces a tougher quarter, although many tennis insiders tribute Roddick with that challenge. Despite the who’s who is men’s tennis spanning over the 128 slots, Andy is only concerned with one player: his first round opponent, Frenchman Jo Wilfried Tsonga.

After a well fought victory over Roger Federer in the finals of the AAMI Classic in Kooyong, Andy was pleased with his momentum heading into this week. “It’s nice to get some good preparation and feel like you’re playing well going into the Aussie Open.” During defending his title in Kooyong last week, Andy reflected on some areas he hopes to improve upon against Tsonga. “I think I can actually serve a little bit better than I have this week. I’ve been holding serve, but I don’t know if my first serve percentage has been that high. But if I’m looking at my game, that’s a good problem to have for me.”

Andy will face off against Jo Wilfried Tsonga Monday at 11:00 AM Local time (7:00pm EST Sunday) on Vodafone Arena. ESPN2 will carry the match live on Sunday, January 14th at 7:00 PM.
