Fans at the Charity Weekend

Let it never be said that Andy’s fans don’t know how to party! Several members from AR.com’s community were in town last weekend for the annual Andy Roddick Foundation gala. Between them, they bid for the first dance with Andy, had a go at returning his serve, wore some funky t-shirts, oh and they helped raise a lot of money for kids in need too!All the stories are re-told in full on the forums, but we’ve picked out a few highlights to feature on the Home Page!

December’s Fan of the Month, Deanna Reeves (Ms. Forehand) caught up with Andy on Saturday night at the dinner-dance:

“We all got pictures with Andy and gave him the Christmas cards, he was very thankful for those. But anyway, Stacey and David told Andy I was the fan of the month and he goes I SAW THAT!”

Deanna, and some of the other crew donned group t-shirts for Sunday’s tennis, and according to Deanna, they went down a delight!

“Let me just say that the Andy’s Groupies were a BIG hit. Everyone wanted to take pictures of us. Even the newspaper took one haha. So we were very popular.”

Players of the ATP tour, look away now, as we reveal the secret weapon in beating Andy! Deanna and her friends all had a go at returning Andy’s serve…did they meet with much success?

“We rallied for a good 30 seconds and I drop shotted Andy and came into the next and then I passed him with a backhand volley!” Deanna shared. “Then Andy looks at me and looks at Elizabeth up in the stands and goes “WHAT’S WITH YOUR CREW RUSHING THE NET??”

Marianne (arodd1280) also described one of the highlights of her weekend to us. When arriving at the Polo Club on Saturday night, she had a special welcome,

“There is a red carpet, lined with Marines in dress blues on each side, this young man gave me his arm and escorted me up the red carpet, somone else is there holding a tray of filled champagne glasses, you take your glass and your Marine then escorts you on to the door.”

Elizabeth (texasgal247) bid $1500 for the first dance with Andy on Saturday night. We have a video of it (David link here) and also Elizabeth talked us through it:

“The song was “You’ve Lost that Love and Feeling”. He and I started singing to each other but we stopped pretty quickly. Yes we talked the whole dance, we’re both pretty chatty and I was happy I didn’t just babble at him, I made sense and sounded like a human being.”

Tonya’s (tsm1) memorable moment of the weekend?

“I was getting my picture taken with Andy. My friend took the picture on a digital camera, so I checked to see how it looked and Andy is missing his head! I said, ‘Andy wait! She cut your head off!’ He said, ‘What? Why did she cut my head off! Get over here and take another one!’”

Stacey (StaceyS), who described the weekend as one of the best in her life, shared a moment from the poker night with us,

“Andy ended up sitting at the second table closest to us, which was sweet. It was fun watching, although you couldn’t quite exactly tell what was going on score wise. Serena accused Andy of cheating and he yelled really loud “NO IM NOT””

Stacey, after having her photo with Andy twice, also met Andy’s agent Ken Meyerson, and Andy’s dad, Mr. Roddick,

“We realized that Andy had just left, and we stopped his SFX agent Ken to see if Andy was done for the night. He said he was because he was extremely exhausted. So we got to talking to Ken and all of a sudden he goes “Wait right here, I’m going to go get Mr.Roddick”. So sure enough here comes Ken and Mr.Roddick, and here’s my plug for them ALL YOU FANS JOIN CLUB RODDICK!!!! It’s only going to get better. Than we all got hugs from Jerry.”
