The 6th Annual Andy Roddick Foundation Charity Weekend rolled on Sunday afternoon under sunny skies at the Polo Club in Boca Raton. Joined by tennis legend Andre Agassi and record holder Brenda Schultz-McCarthy, Andy kicked off Sunday morning with a festive Pro-Am.

After chatting with Agassi about Fantasy Football and Vegas over a light lunch of P.F Changs, Andy meet with the press to share the inspirations and motivations behind the Andy Roddick Foundation. Andy discussed how Andre’s advice impacted him at an early age. Andre had told Andy his one big regret on the tour was not staring his foundation earlier, and taking his role model’s advice to heart Andy shared “I didn’t want to be telling the next guy that.” From the local news stations, to magazines to the University of Miami Television, the media let no subject go uncovered. UM Journalism students even put Andy on the spot asking “Every girl on campus wants to know, are you dating anyone?” Andy smiled and quickly chirped “Why don’t we talk about something interesting.”

Andy was hardly as coy on court when he joined brother John Roddick, Brenda, and The Dave Mathews Band’s Boyd Tinsley in a doubles match. The group truly took the idea of “hit and giggle” to the max, as Boyd yelled “Get in there,” after most every shot. Even the ball kids were called upon several times to assist as they held the pros hands during points. Miami DJ Footie from Y100 emceed the event with witty commentary. Before Andre Agassi took the court for the marquee singles match, the stands were packed and people stood on the stairs to get a glimpse of American men’s tennis at it’s finest. “How many people here snuck in,” Footie asked as it was clear the stadium was over capacity. “Security,” he laughed when several people raised their hands.

“He is a great tennis player and an even better person,” Andy announced as he introduced Agassi. Perhaps he should have said ‘phenomenal’ tennis player, as the recently retired legend was ready to battle, defeating Andy in two energizing sets. The two chirped at one another over the self line calling system. “What?” Andre looked astonished when Andy called a ball out. “You remember a few games back when you called my shot out in the alley, and it was clearly in,” Andy explained how he was leveling the score.

Guests of the 2006 Andy Roddick Foundation Charity Weekend saw action both on and off the court. In an intimate autograph session, fans were able to meet both Andre and Andy in addition to getting their favorite memorabilia signed. From rackets, to t-shirts, to tennis balls to framed tickets and more, Andre spent over an hour meeting South Florida tennis enthusiasts. While Andre helped make memories for hundreds of fans of all ages, Andy put his fans to the test letting them attempt to return his blistering record holding serve.

As the sun began to set at the Polo Club, Andre packed his rackets to catch a plane back to Vegas as Andy signed the last few autographs. Foundation Chairwoman Blanche Roddick was bustling around the grounds as people thanked her for another wonderful event. Excited ball kids, still wearing their royal blue Lacoste t-shirts, were enthusiastically trading war stories of how Andy and Andre ran them around the court by throwing balls in every direction. Fans still mingled around, hesitant to leave as they watched Andy sit down for the first time all day. But as people shouted out “see you next year,” every few minutes there was the constant reminder that the show was eventually coming back to town.
