On The Rod With Lacoste #4

Lacoste catches up with Andy in Shanghai after his first Round Robin match at the Masters Cup when he beat Ivan Ljubicic in three tough sets.

After panning around the outside of the stadium, the video gives you an exclusive sneak peek at the Lacoste Lounge in the Qi Zhong Stadium before settling in for a chat with Andy’s coach, Jimmy Connors who weighs in with his opinions on lessons learned, champions’ mentality, serve and volley, and Roger Federer. Here’s a snippet:

“For me, what I’m looking for is that he goes out and he plays his game. That he’s hungry and will do anything to try and win. Really, win, lose or draw, if he does that then from my stand point, I’m satisfied. But from Andy’s stand point there’s no exception.

“I don’t want him to serve and volley all the time, I don’t want him to stay back all the time I want him to be able to mix up his play and to play the way the situation calls for and the more he does that the better he’s going to get at it.

“If Andy goes out and plays his game and plays the way I think he’s capable of playing and he thinks that he’s capable of playing up to that standard then serve him up and let’s get to it!”
