Although [1] Andy Roddick will not be playing in the semifinals at the season-ending Masters Cup tennis tournament, he does not seem to be leaving dispirited.
Roddick lost, 6-2, 7-6 (4), on Thursday to the defending champion, David Nalbandian, whose godson died Wednesday.
Nalbandian joins [2] Roger Federer, the world’s top-ranked player, in the semifinals from their group. Roddick and Ivan Ljubicic, each with a 1-2 record in the round-robin segment of the tournament, head home.
Federer defeated Ljubicic, 7-6 (2), 6-4, on Thursday night to finish 3-0. Nalbandian also finished 1-2, but he advanced because he won more sets than Roddick or Ljubicic.
