“I was excited to come over here and interact with the people here. I haven’t been here before…I’m enjoying everything. I’m enjoying playing on the court. I’m enjoying experiencing the culture, as well…I’m definitely having a great time since I’ve been here in China,” Andy told reporters earlier in the week and his Masters Cup experience is far from over as he faces Argentinean David Nalbandian on Thursday for a spot in the Semi Finals.
Nalbandian, the 2005 Masters Cup Champion, has had a difficult week, falling to both Roger Federer and Ivan Ljubicic in three sets. Making his third Masters Cup appearance, the Argentinean qualified sixth in the race.
Though Andy and David have played four times before, their most recent meeting was back in 2003 in Switzerland. Andy holds a 3-1 record over David heading into the anticipated match up that will determine if Andy advances to the Semi Finals.
Following a tremendous effort against World Number One Roger Federer, Andy will have a day off before continuing his Masters Cup Campaign. “With the progress I’ve made over the last four or five months, I feel like I’m only getting better each time I step out there on the court.” As the Red Group remains “yet to be settled” according to the ATP, both Andy and David will compete to extend their 2006 season for another day.
