“You have your good days and your bad days,” Andy told reporters following his second round win over Grosjean on Tuesday. Team Roddick is doing all they can to ensure the “good days” continue in Madrid as Andy faces eleventh seed Tomas Berdych in the third round. Joined by Jimmy Connors, John Roddick and Doug Spreen, Andy has assembled a strong arsenal overseas as he faces uncharted territory.
Andy and Tomas have never played before but plenty are familiar with young Czech who is currently at a personal career best of 11th in the rankings this year. Although he has not claimed a title in 2006, with a towering 6’5” frame, Berdych promises to deliver big shots. In addition to huge serves, Tomas and Andy share a traveling companion as Berdych also notes his laptop as a must have on the road.
