Defending Kroger St. Jude champion Taylor Dent has been dismissed in the first round by fellow American Jan Michael Gambill, 7-6, 6-3.
Dent, the No. 2 seed, was likely Roddick’s most challenging opponent in the tournament. Dent defeated then defending champion Roddick last year, 6-1, 6-4, in the final to claim the second of his four ATP titles, and one of three titles he claimed last year alone.
With Dent out, the chances for a 13th career title for Andy are improving.
Andy will take on another American Todd Martin in his first round match set to take place tonight at 6:30 pm on stadium court. Stay tuned to AR.com for further updates.
