next Stop: Kroger St. Jude, Memphis

Jet-hopping has officially become a past-time for the current US Open champion, Andy Roddick. Following the US Davis Cup team victory in Uncasville, Conn., he hopped aboard a plane to take part in the Siebel Open in San Jose, Calif. this past week, where he captured the title, the 12th of his young career.

Racking up more frequent flier miles, Andy next headed to Memphis, Tenn. to compete in this week’s feature tournament, the Kroger St. Jude-Cellular South Cup, where he was a finalist last year, falling to hard-serving Taylor Dent, this year’s third seed.

If Andy successfully completes his side of the draw, he can potentially meet Mardy Fish in the final. If they do, it will be their third meeting in a final in six months.

Andy joins the other members of the Davis Cup team in Memphis: Mardy Fish, Robbi Ginepri, and the Bryan Brothers, making for a memorable event as the good pals reunite for yet another tournament at the Racquet Club of Memphis.

All fun aside, there are 50 valuable Race points up for grabs, and Andy must use his experience as the 2002 titleholder and the 2003 Memphis finalist to capitalize on this opportunity as the remaining top players in the world, including Roger Federer, Juan Carlos Ferrero, and Llyeton Hewitt are all vying for points this week as well, at the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament taking place in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Andy will take on fellow American Todd Martin in his first round opener in Memphis. Stay tuned to AR.com for the official order of play and updates from the St. Jude-Cellular South Cup.
